HEALTHY SMOOTHIE RECIPES

Need a quick and healthy breakfast? Try these three smoothie recipes. All are high in fibre, vegan, vegetarian and packed full of nutrients.


PINEAPPLE AND KALE GREEN SMOOTHIE

This smoothie is high protein, high fibre, vegetarian and vegan. It contains 918 kJ (220 cals), 26g carbs, 8g protein, 7g fat and 7g fibre. INGREDIENTS

½ cup unsweetened almond milk

⅓ cup plain Greek yoghurt

1 cup kale leaves, stems removed or 2 frozen kale cubes

½ cup frozen pineapple chunks

1 tsp chia seeds

METHOD

Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender and serve immediately.


BREAKFAST CARAMEL SHAKE

This smoothie is high fibre, vegetarian and vegan. It contains 1522 kJ (364 cals), 7g protein, 16g fat, 46g carbs and 6g fibre. INGREDIENTS

1 frozen ripe banana

1 tb cacao powder

1 tb almond butter

1 medjol date

1 cup unsweetened almond milk or milk alternative

1/3 cup ice

METHOD

Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender and serve immediately.


BERRY BANG SMOOTHIE

This smoothie is high fibre, vegetarian and vegan. It contains 1090 kJ (260 cals), 35g carbs, 6g protein, 8g fat and 9g fibre per serve.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup milk or milk alternatives

1 tbsp plain Greek yoghurt (vegetarian) or coconut yoghurt (vegan)

1 cup frozen mixed berries

1 cup spinach leaves

½ cm piece of ginger, grated

1 medjool date, pitted

2 tbsp rolled oats

METHOD

Blend all ingredients in a high-speed blender and serve immediately.
