6 NEW THINGS TO TRY THIS SUMMER

With all the activities that pop up at the end of the year, it can be a challenge to keep active without feeling like you’re missing out on a fun gathering with friends. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Grab your mates and make the most of this beautiful time of year by heading outdoors and trying something different this summer.

1. PLAY BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Beach volleyball is usually played with two players on either side of the net and is fuss-free – all you need is a net and ball to set yourself up. Added bonus: after jumping around the sand you’ll feel muscles you never knew you even had in your legs!

2. STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING

It’s great for your abs and an awesome way to spend time on the water. Impress your friends with some balancing tricks, or just enjoy floating with the current. You’ll find gear to hire and instructors on the water, in all the major hot-spots across Australia.

3. GO FOR A BIKE RIDE

Whether you’re into trees and tranquility or beaches and vistas, there are some scenic cycle paths all over the country just calling your name. Pick a destination, pack yourselves a picnic and enjoy – maybe keep the lycra onesie at home though.

4. SWIM IN THE OCEAN

Not only is it thrilling to be so one with nature, hitting the beach with friends in summer is probably the most Australian experience that’s out there. Get yourself ready for your first ocean swim with these tips and enjoy some vitamin sea.

5. GO ROLLER-SKATING

Did someone say Xanadu? Leave the roller rink (and questionable leotards) behind, and get your skate on, outdoors. Esplanades by the beach and pathways through our national parks are perfect for a group skate.

6. PLAY A GAME OF CROQUET

Here’s something a bit out there in the most low impact of ways. Get your friends to set up some hoops on the lawn – or check out a croquet club – for a game or two and channel your inner Alice in Wonderland (pink flamingos are optional).
