TRAIN
WITH
CONFIDENCE

We've missed seeing you in the gym, and we’ve been busy preparing for your return.

As lockdown restrictions ease, many of us are excited to get back into the gym to kickstart our fitness and wellbeing. To ensure you can train with confidence, Fitness First is introducing a range of new measures.

what we're doing

The health and safety of our members and staff remains our top priority. That’s why we’re adding even more safety measures and extensive cleaning protocols, so we can safely support you in getting back into your training.

Increased Cleaning

  • Thorough cleaning of all equipment by both professional cleaners and staff. On the gym floor and following the conclusion of any class
  • No shared equipment unless disinfected between uses
  • Increased COVID-19 education programs across all clubs

Safety Measures

  • Hygiene stations placed nearby high-touch areas offering hand sanitiser, medical grade disinfectant for use and sanitising gym wipes
  • Our staff have undertaken Australian Government training modules on COVID-19
  • Closing non-essential areas. Find out more on the Member Service Information page
  • Closing water bubblers (bottled water will remain available to purchase)
  • Cash free purchases at Reception

Social Distancing

  • Repositioning equipment where possible as well as introducing clear floor markings and more signage to help members and staff maintain 1.5 metres social distancing in all areas of the club
  • Introducing new Group Exercise class procedures including no member interaction or sharing of equipment, hygiene stations at studio entry and exits, and additional time between classes for cleaning and sanitisation
  • Decommissioning every other piece of cardio equipment to ensure a 1.5 metre distance can be kept. This includes in Cycle Studios.

Keeping each other safe

At this time, community is more important than ever. You can help us and your fellow members stay safe and healthy by following these guidelines.

  • Do not attend the gym if you’re feeling unwell
  • Our strict ‘no towel, no train’ policy is in place
  • We ask that you take responsibility for social distancing measures by adhering to dedicated floor markings, avoid congregating prior to Group Exercise classes starting, respect capacity rules and use only the equipment that is available
  • Don't arrive more than 5 minutes prior to you booking, to ensure that we adhere to social distancing capacity
  • Thoroughly wipe down all equipment before and after use, using the antibacterial wipes provided
  • Lockers are currently in use at all open clubs. However, if regulations change and lockers need to close, club members should arrive with only the essentials including a towel and a water bottle, leaving valuables at home or on your person
  • We encourage you to bring your own mat when attending Group Exercise classes
  • Always swipe into the club, this will enable more accurate attendance records
  • Please be respectful to team members who are enforcing procedures

Frequently asked questions

How is Fitness First protecting members and staff?

At Fitness First, the safety of our members and staff is our number one priority. We have put an extensive range of protective measures in place (as listed above). These include (but not limited to); increased cleaning specifications, hygiene stations placed in every area of the club, adhering to social distancing guidelines, a strict “no towel, no train policy” and closure of non-essential areas.

In addition, our staff have completed the Australian Government COVID-19 Infection and Prevention Control training, and will be issued with optional masks, disposable gloves and extensive cleaning kits ready for use.

What areas of the gym are still closed?

Check whether your state's clubs are open on the Member Services Information page.

In clubs that are open, non-essential areas of the gym will be reviewed in line with state regulations. Areas that may be closed or impacted may include showers; lockers; change room facilities such as hair dryers/straighteners and scales; relaxation zones (steam room/sauna); pools and spas; Playzone; Swim School and Dance School; and common areas such as the members’ lounge. Refer to the Member Service Information page for the latest information.

Do I need to wear a mask?

Wearing a mask is your choice and not mandatory according to the Federal Government. Some of our staff may wear masks.

What are the new procedures for Group Exercise classes?

Group Exercise classes will be capped in order to maintain appropriate social distancing. This will differ by class and by club. To make things easier, we have introduced an online booking system so you can secure your spot ahead of time.

In addition, class times will be spaced at least 15 minutes apart to allow for cleaning and sanitisation. On arrival, please avoid congregating around the studio entry.

Class programming has been re-designed to avoid member interaction and sharing of equipment. We ask that members adhere to social distancing guidelines by following the floor markings within the studio for the duration of the class.

Finally, we recommend you bring your own mat, particularly when attending Yoga and Pilates classes. Please bring only the essentials (towel, water bottle).

Wearing a mask is your choice and not mandatory according to the Federal Government. Some of our staff may wear masks.

How will you do contact tracing?

It’s important that you swipe into the club when visiting. This will allow us to trace when you have entered and left the club, should the data be required by the Department of Health. We also encourage members to download the Government COVIDSave app

What is the capacity of volume of people allowed within the club?

These will vary and change depending on State regulations, check out the Member Service Information page for more information. We will also keep you informed as these changes are made on social media and via email.

How can we reduce risk of Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends hygiene and other measures to reduce the general risk of infection:

  • Frequently cleaning hands by using alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water
  • When coughing and sneezing cover mouth or nose with flexed elbow or tissue - throw tissue away immediately and wash hands
  • Avoiding close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough
  • If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing seek medical care early and share previous travel history with your healthcare provider.

This situation is evolving and we ask members to continue to check the below websites for the latests updates and guidance:
